Romeoville’s village board voted Wednesday night to grant naming rights on the athletic and event center in Uptown Square to Edward Hospital.

The plan will change the name of the facility to the Edward Hospital Athletic and Event Center.

The five-year agreement will net Romeoville $500,000 in five yearly installments, according to village documents.

The front sign on the building will carry that name but will be installed at the hospital’s cost, village officials said Wednesday.

Edward will also receive other sponsorship rights, including signage on one of the facility’s basketball courts, according to village attorney Rich Vogel.

Signage slated to be erected by the village on Illinois Route 53 advertising the entire Uptown Square development area will include a panel for the facility with its new Edward Hospital-inspired name, he said.

Edward will also be able to lease about 1,600 square feet on the facility’s second floor for physical therapy services, according to Vogel.

Mayor John Noak praised the deal, saying it was a standard thing for sporting venues of all size these days.

Romeoville will still have its own signage on the building, he said.

“People will still know that the village of Romeoville owns the facility,” Noak said.

Noak said he was glad that such a “prestigious” organization was interested in naming rights.

“I look forward to the partnership,” Noak said. “I think it’s going to open up some amazing marketing opportunities for both groups.”

Trustee Dave Richards said the physical therapy portion of the facility will help bring even more visitors to town, hopefully bringing more people into area businesses.
