Syfy is going back into space later this year with the new drama “The Expanse,” and it looks to be an exciting trip.

The network released a trailer Thursday showing a few tense standoffs, space flights, ominous warnings from disgruntled miners and just a glimpse of zero-gravity sex.

“The Expanse” is based on the best-selling book series of the same name written by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck (under the pen name James S. A. Corey). Set 200 years in the future when humankind has explored and colonized much of the solar system, the story begins when a young heiress goes missing and Detective Miller (Thomas Jane), who works for a corporate security force that patrols an asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter where Miller was born, is assigned to find her.

Miller teams up with Holden (Steven Strait), the rogue captain of an ice-carrying freighter called the Canterbury. Their investigation into the missing woman leads them across the solar system and to the discovery of “the greatest conspiracy in human history.”

Shohreh Aghdashloo also stars as Chrisjen Avasarala, the leader of a strong political family who is a major player in Earth’s governing body. She’s the one who says, “Earth must come first.”

“Breaking Bad” fans also will notice Jonathan Banks, who played enforcer Mike Ehrmantraut in that series and the upcoming “Better Call Saul.”
Paulo Costanzo, Jay Hernandez, Dominique Tipper, Cas Anvar, Wes Chatham and Florence Faivre also star.

The 10-episode first season, which will premiere later this year, harkens Syfy’s first series return to the space—and the space opera—in several years. Can’t wait to see it.
