New data released Thursday from the Migration Policy Institute show that about 225,000 immigrants living illegally in five counties could be affected by President Barack Obama’s executive actions on deportation. Data from the Washington think tank also reveal demographic details about these immigrants, such as top countries of birth, language and income characteristics.

The executive actions to defer deportation

  • Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals eligibility: Must have entered the U.S. before age 16, have a high school degree or equivalent, or be enrolled in a program to receive one, have lived in the U.S. for at least five years and pass a criminal background check.
  • Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents eligibilty: Must be parents of either U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents and have at least five years of U.S. residency and pass a criminal background check.
