Lake Forest-based Hospira on Tuesday said it will close a manufacturing plant in North Carolina that employs 250 people in the second half of the year.
The maker of injectable drugs and medical devices said in a filing that the closing is part of “ongoing optimization and modernization efforts.”
Hospira said the closing will carry a pretax cost of $45 million and include a noncash impairment charge of $22 million, based on what would have been future production from the Clayton, N.C. facility.
The company plans to spend about $15 million on employee severance and retention and $8 million in other noncash costs, including an accelerated depreciation of the plant assets.
