Suburban opera
The Patty Turner Center welcomes back classical pianist Saori Chiba for a new musical showcase from 2 to 4 p.m. on Jan 16. Matthan Black and Alicia Berneche, a pair of young, operatic singers from Chicago, will accompany Chiba for the performance. A light reception follows the concert, as well as an opportunity to meet the performers. Admission is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. Off the Wagon
With a repertoire that covers genres from big band to country-rock, Off the Wagon will hit Norton’s stage at 9:30 p.m. Jan. 17. Expect guitars and drums for the rockers and electric fiddles for the country classics. There is no cover charge for this event. Norton’s Restaurant is located at 1905 Sheridan Road in Highland Park. A day in the life
Calling all Beatle fanatics: Professor Moptop of WXRT’s “Breakfast with the Beatles” will lead a discussion on the 1967 classic album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, at 2 p.m. on Jan. 17 in Deerfield. Attendees can participate in a discussion and enter a chance to win a copy of the enhanced CD. All that jazz
Midwest Young Artists presents “Jazz in January,” a concert of standards delivered by the organization’s jazz ensemble, jazz orchestra, jazz workshop and big band. The performance takes place at Bennett Gordon Hall at 4 p.m. Jan 18 and will feature New York-based drummer Matt Wilson. Tickets are available at mya.org.
