The FBI says a man who tried to rob an Old Town bank over the weekend is a suspect is two other bank heists in Chicago last month.
Andrew Garland, 46, walked into a TCF bank branch in the Jewel-Osco at 1210 N. Clark St. around 1:55 p.m. Saturday, according to the FBI.
Garland handed a note scrawled on a wet napkin to a teller and demanded money, the FBI said in a statement. A bank manager noticed the shocked expression on the teller’s face and called security.
Garland fled before taking any money, but Chicago police officers were able to catch him after a chase, the FBI said.
Garland is also suspected of robbing a North Community Bank branch at 2 W. Elm St. last Wednesday, and a Bank of America branch at 515 N. LaSalle St. at about 5:35 p.m. on Dec. 19, according to the FBI.
Garland could face up to 20 years in prison if found guilty of attempted bank robbery.
