Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

A day after Ravens outside linebacker Terrell Suggs proclaimed that the “football gods are definitely smiling” on a third Ravens-Steelers matchup this season, his Pittsburgh nemesis, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, said Wednesday that the matchup is “what the NFL wants.”

“That’s why they put it as the night one,” Roethlisberger said in a conference call with Baltimore reporters. “This is football players’ or coaches’, and fans’ dream.”

The Ravens and Steelers have split two games this season, but Roethlisberger said neither of those games — nor Pittsburgh’s 3-0 all-time playoff record against the Ravens — has any bearing on Saturday’s AFC wild-card matchup.

“Shoot, we throw both of those other two games out,” said Roethlisberger, who threw for 340 yards and six touchdown passes in the last meeting against the Ravens, a 43-23 Steelers’ victory at Heinz Field on Nov. 2. “You throw every game out you played so far this year because this is the playoffs. It’s a new season, a new ballgame.

“We know that this is a great football team coming into our place. We’re just putting all the work in that we can trying to get ready.”
