Extra cops looking for drunk drivers New Year’s Eve in Elmwood Park

Elmwood Park police say they’ll have extra officers on standby for New Year’s Eve.

“They will be diligent in focusing on drunk drivers,” said Deputy Chief Andrew Hock. “We will instruct watch commanders they are authorized to get extra officers if needed.”

For those who have had too much to drink, Hock recommends calling a taxi, taking mass transit or calling someone sober to driver you home. Ideally those celebrating New Year’s Eve should designate a sober driver before heading out.

For the sober drivers, Hock asks that they report any drunk drivers they see and to make sure everyone in their vehicle has their seatbelt fastened.
