The April 4 election in Franklin Park will be a contested one.

Three more residents registered to run for village trustee Monday under the Progress through Lower Taxes party.

The three candidates are Ken Zurek, Chris Litwin and Vicki Vanderhei. All three filed at 11:53 a.m. Dec. 22.

Zurek is a frequent critic of both village policies and village officials. He currently is involved in an effort to get a term limits referendum on the April 4 ballot. Zurek earned a law degree and has practiced law in the past.

Chris Litwin ran for village president in April 2013. He earned an associate’s degree from Triton College in criminal justice and has worked as a hospital security guard. He is also active in volunteering for Polish organizations.

The trio join a ballot which already features incumbents William Ruhl and Cheryl McLean and newcomer James Caporusso. Ruhl, McLean and Caporusso are running under the banner of the Progress for Leadership Party.

The deadline to turn in signature petitions was 5 p.m. Monday. Challenges to candidates must be filed by 5 p.m. Jan. 2.

The top three vote-getters will take village trustee seats, regardless of party.
