Evanston Police are investigating a pedestrian accident in which a 30-year-old Evanston woman suffered life-threatening injuries after she was struck by a United Parcel Service (UPS) delivery truck while crossing the street at Central St. and Ashland Ave.
According to police, the accident occurred about 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22. The woman was walking across the street when the UPS truck turned southbound onto Ashland, striking the pedestrian, Commander Jay Parrott said in a department release.
The woman was trapped under the truck until Evanston Fire Department personnel were able to transport the pedestrian to Evanston-Northshore University Hospital for treatment, Parrott said.
The victim has multiple injuries that are considered to be life-threatening at this time.
The Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was called to the scene.
Around 9 p.m. the same night, a separate, unrelated accident occurred not far from where the woman was hit by the UPS truck.
A man crashed his car into several parked cars and was apprehended by police.
