Students at East and West Leyden high schools found some time to send packages of candy and cards to soldiers stationed overseas.
The students collected 23 large boxes of candy — enough for 425 soldiers — and wrote cards. They delivered those on Dec. 10 to Operation Care Package, a volunteer organization that collects mail and items for overseas military.
“We do not know where all of the boxes went,” said Sandie Leonard, the project’s organizer.
Maj. Brandon Gardner, who’s stationed at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait, wrote back with thanks and a photo of himself and soldiers.
“It is like a little mini Christmas when we open our box and see the cool and interesting things they hold,” Gardner wrote.
