The women behind downtown Arlington Heights’ newest hair salon said they hope to train a generation of future stylists to make this new community their own.
“We are not a school. We just want to build an education and training for the salon as we grow,” said Pure Salon owner Ashley Burfiendt.
Burfiendt and business partner Dawn Wu both live in Chicago and met while working at a salon together in the suburbs. When it came time to branch out, they picked Arlington Heights despite having no personal ties to the area, Burfiendt said.
“We did hair on the North Shore, so we wanted to be somewhat close to our client base. We just looked in the surrounding areas,” Burfiendt said.
Their new location at 3 W. Davis St. in downtown Arlington Heights also helped seal the deal. The bright space has wooden floors and a brick exterior.
“The corner location of where we’re located is a hot spot,” Burfiendt said. “We fell in love with all the windows. Doing hair color, you get that natural light that comes in.”
Burfiendt said customer service is also key to the new business. All clients get complimentary scalp, shoulder or hand massages any time they visit, whether they come in for bridal hair and makeup services, facials or a haircut.
“I guess it always had been a dream,” she said. “I was a shampoo girl at 15.”
