Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson agreed to a four-year contract extension, the school announced Saturday.
Terms of the new deal were not released. The extension is through the 2020 season. Before the extension, Johnson’s contract was set to end after the 2016 season.
In seven seasons as the Yellow Jackets’ coach, Johnson is 58-34. The team has advanced to three ACC championship games during his tenure. Georgia Tech plays Florida State for the conference title Saturday night.
“I’m pleased to announce an extension of Paul Johnson’s contract,” athletic director Mike Bobinski said. “This extension reflects our confidence in the solid foundation Coach Johnson has built for the future success of our program, which reaches beyond the field and includes increasingly strong academic achievement.
“I look forward to Paul Johnson’s continued leadership of our football program and am excited about the possibilities in the years ahead.”
Johnson was named ACC Coach of the Year earlier this week for the third time. He also earned the honor in 2008 and ’09.
“I am excited that we were able to work out a contract extension,” Johnson said in a statement. “I appreciate the support of our fans, students and alumni during my time here. My family and I are looking forward to being a part of Georgia Tech for a long time.”
