Sergio Farfan, who graduated in May from West Leyden High, has organized a group art show on Saturday, Dec. 6, in Chicago.
“This is the first show where I’m actually marketing it and trying to get people to attend,” said Farfan, who talked to Pioneer Press about his experiences creating art earlier this year.
He’s using a mix of old and new media to promote the show ranging from flyers on cars and in coffee shops to Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
The show will feature five artists originally from five countries including Poland, Puerto Rico, somewhere in Asia, the U.S. and Farfan, who was born in Peru. Among them will be Matt Zuska, also a West Leyden graduate.
It’s a mix of street art, abstract and 3-D objects done in oils or acrylic or ink & pencil.
Farfan started at the American Academy of Art in Chicago this fall and is working on a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. He continues to design and sell T-shirts with his artwork (www.Fly95clothing.com) and has exhibited at Ian Sherwin Gallery in Chicago in June.
The show takes place from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday at 845 W. Washington Boulevard, Chicago. There will be a DJ, food and drinks. Prices start at $50. For more information, e-mail Farfan at [email protected].
