Sosa, 46, last of Aurora, was convicted on nearly two dozen sex assault counts by a jury earlier this year. He repeatedly sexually assaulted a family member after the family moved to Aurora from Indiana in 2012, prosecutors said previously.
The assaults went on for years, and the relative only came forward after she observed Sosa assaulting another relative in a Naperville hotel room, court documents state.
In a letter to the Illinois Department of Corrections, prosecutors said Sosa “shows no remorse for his actions and continues to blame others for his actions.”
Judge Clint Hull issued the lengthy prison term in October and Sosa is now challenging it as “excessive.”
In the motion to reconsider sentence, Sosa suggests Hull erred by considering the sex assaults as separate incidents and not part of a single course of conduct even though the same “complaining witness” was involved. Sosa also claims Hull should not have considered psychological harm as an aggravating factor in determining the sentence because no evidence of such damage was presented, while Hull failed to consider alternatives to assist in Sosa’s rehabilitation, according to the motion.
“The defense believes in light of the evidence presented to the court, the sentences imposed in this case are excessive,” the motion states.
Prosecutors have not yet responded to the motion. A Jan. 15 hearing is scheduled.
A DuPage County case based on the Naperville hotel assault was closed after Sosa’s sentencing in the Kane County case.
