player ready...The Chicago Fire added more youth and speed Wednesday with the signing of Joevin Jones, a versatile defender/midfielder from Trinidad.
Jones, 23, joins the Fire from HJK Helsinki, where he made six appearances with the reigning Finnish champions. Terms were not disclosed.
The international signing is the Fire’s second this week. On Tuesday, they announced the acquisition of Nigerian forward Kennedy Igboananike.
Jones spent most of his professional career with W Connection, based in Trinidad. He also has played with Trinidad and Tobago age group and senior national teams. He helped lead W Connection to their fifth Pro League title in 2013 and finished second in the league with 14 goals.
Jones is no stranger to Major League Soccer. He had a tryout with the Colorado Rapids in 2011 when he was 19.
Last month, Jones and the national team reached the finals of the Caribbean Cup, falling to Jamaica in a shootout after a scoreless tie.
