Naperville North High School students Aleeza Leder Macek and Jesi Morris are adding “director” to their resumes. The seniors are at the helm of “Sleeping Beauty,” the children’s play, which opens Dec. 5 at the North Performing Arts Center.
“One of the things I really enjoy is that the children’s show (gives) freshman and people new to North theater the opportunity to be in a show,” said Leder Macek, 18. “I first started out in North theater in the children’s show my sophomore year, and I wouldn’t be where I am if I hadn’t been cast in that show.”
The student director said she appreciates the opportunity to introduce fellow students into the “theater world,” teaching cast members techniques and terms that will help them in future roles.
“Also, I love being able to create the vision of the show because you are creating a piece of art for people to enjoy, especially little kids, so it’s fun to make it as playful as possible,” she said.
Performances of the classic fairy tale are at 7 p.m. Dec. 5 with a reception following; at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 6; and at 2 p.m. Dec. 7. Tickets are $5 (student/senior) and $10 (adult) and can be purchased at the door. Reserved seat tickets can be purchased online at www.naperville203.tix.com.
