An information letter posted last month on the Wilmette Elementary School District 39 website initially provided readers with incorrect information about one of two education finance-oriented bills now pending in the Illinois General Assembly.
District officials quickly revised the legislation letter, which addressed two proposed bills now stalled in Springfield: Senate Bill 16, which would redistribute general state school aid from wealthier school districts to poorer districts; and House Resolution 1267, which opposes any efforts to shift the burden of teachers’ pensions from the state to the district.
While the information on SB 16 was correct, the first version of the district’s letter actually stated that HR 1267 backed a shift of pension costs from the state to local districts.
By Nov. 24, district officials had discovered the mistake and reposted a corrected version of the letter. That fix was made after the Nov. 27 issue of the Wilmette Life went to press, thus why that issue contained inaccurate information.
Holly Goldin, the district’s communications director, said Dec. 1 that administrators had not determined how the incorrect information was originally acquired.
