Just as all the Whos in Whoville gathered around to sing in the season, Lake County families are invited to usher in the holidays with tree-lighting ceremonies.

Deerfield

The Downtown Lighting Ceremony with free treats and entertainment will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Nov. 26 at Deerfield Village Centre Plaza, 625 Deerfield Road. For information, call (847) 945-5000 or go to deerfield.il.us.

Lake Zurich

The 26th annual Holiday Tree Lighting and Evening with Santa will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 29 at Paulus Park, 200 S. Rand Road. A performance by the Lake Zurich Dancers and Lake Zurich High School Bare Voices, crafts and free refreshments will be included. Registration costs $5 for residents and $10 for non-residents. Libertyville

The annual Downtown Holiday Walk and Village Tree Lighting will be at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 28 at Cook Park on Milwaukee Avenue at Cook and Church streets. The decades-old tradition will feature performances by the Butterfield School Chorus and Talent Forum’s Footprints Tap Ensemble. Santa Claus will then arrive on a fire engine and lead the countdown to light the tree. “Everyone then has the opportunity to come on stage and get a photo with Santa and by the tree or go inside the historical Cook Mansion or walk the stores and restaurants in downtown,” said Conrad Kowal, director of recreation for the village and master of ceremonies for the event. “It’s Norman Rockwell-like vintage Americana, good old-fashioned fun to start the season.” For information, call (847) 918-7275 or go to libertyville.com.

Main Street Libertyville will host holiday events in December. A Victorian tea from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 6 and 13 at Episcopal, will be catered by English tea, finger sandwiches and pastries served on fine china with Victorian silverware and vintage linens. Tickets are $35. Dickens of a Holiday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 6 and 13 in downtown Libertyville will feature photos with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Mundelein

The village’s annual tree lighting ceremony will begin with refreshments and music by Jazz Spectrum at 5 p.m. Dec. 5 at Kracklauer Park, 116 N. Lake St. The tree lighting and fireworks will start at 6 p.m. Following the tree lighting, the Mundelein Police Academy Alumni will host its sixth annual spaghetti dinner at the department on Seymour Avenue. Vernon Hills

The Winter Wonderland Holiday Light Show will open Nov. 28 on the grounds of the Cuneo Mansion and Gardens, 350 N. Milwaukee Ave. The drive-through display will be open to Jan. 3, 2015, from 6 to 10 p.m. daily, except Dec. 24 and 25. Admission is $5 per car Mondays to Thursdays and $10 Fridays to Sundays.
