Playing hoops or running a race could score your family a nice bird or other prizes at these upcoming events in the south suburbs.

New Lenox

The New Lenox Community Park District’s Gobbler Gauntlet 5K for people 7 and older will be Nov. 22 at Sanctuary Golf Course, 485 N. Marley Road.

Registration costs $20 via thtiming.com until 5 p.m. Nov. 20; or $30 on race day beginning at 7 a.m.

Proceeds will benefit New Lenox Township Food Pantry.

All participants will receive a participation ribbon. Participants may sign up on the day of the run.

Orland Hills

The 21st annual Turkey Trot Race will be Nov. 22 at Kelly Park, 16675 S. Haven Ave.

The 1-mile begins at 9 a.m. and the 5k at 10 a.m.

Registration is $25 in advance or $30 on race day.

Participants will receive a sweatshirt while supplies last. Prizes will be awarded for top winners.

Orland Park

The village will hold its 11th annual Turkey Shoot from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 23 in the Sportsplex gym.

Teams of a parent and child grouped according to age will compete to win a turkey by shooting basketballs. All ages are welcome and mini basketballs and hoops will be used for the youngest kids. Parents may compete with more than one child. The cost is $2 to $6.

Palos Hills

The Turkey Shootout for all ages will be at 1 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Community Center, 8455 W. 103rd St.

Each participant will attempt 10 shots worth various points throughout designated areas.

High scores will compete for prizes.

Participation is free, but pre-registration required at the Community Center.
