Oak Park native Cecily Strong, a comedian and “Saturday Night Live” cast member, will headline the White House Correspondents Association’s annual dinner in April.
Strong, 30, grew up in Oak Park and went to Oak Park and River Forest High School before attending the Chicago Academy of the Arts.
At “SNL,” she had a stint on the Weekend Update desk and is known for her “Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation With” character.
At the black-tie dinner, the featured speaker performs a roast of the administration and the press corps. Strong will bring with her a special knowledge of the press: Her father, Bill Strong, is a legendary former Associated Press bureau chief at the Illinois state Capitol.
She’ll be the fourth woman to host the dinner in its 82-year history.
Strong was recruited to the role by White House Correspondents Association President Christi Parsons, a White House correspondent for Tribune Newspapers.
