The new technology director in Forest Ridge School District 142, Brian Skibinski, has decided to personally pay for the buyout of his prior contract with Palos Heights District 128, according to District 142 school board president Judith Schramm.

A standing-room-only crowd showed up at Tuesday night’s District 142 school board meeting, angered by revelations that the board was prepared to pay the buyout and Skibinski’s legal fees when the district was not in danger of being sued.

Before his decision, Skibinski faced a breach-of-contract lawsuit from District 128 for not paying the buyout.

Schramm blamed a “miscommunication” for the controversy over the school board’s intentions.

John Doolin, a District 142 board member, had launched a social media campaign to try to prevent the board from agreeing to cover Skibinski’s buyout, which he said was $9,000, and legal expenses.

Doolin said Skibinski, of Frankfort, was hired last summer by District 142 as its technology director at a salary of more than $90,000 a year.

District 142 Supt. Paul McDermott worked with Skibinski in District 128 and was listed as a reference on his job application in District 142.
