The 32-year-old rapper, whose real name is Frederick Tipton, performed last night at a record store/venue called Rough Trade in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. The rapper’s recent release “Pinata” gained critical acclaim after it’s release back in March.
According to the New York Post, Gibbs’ crew piled into an SUV and was pulling away when the gunman ran up to the car and fired several shots inside. Gibbs wasn’t harmed but two men, including Gibbs’ tour DJ – Chicagoan – DJ Izzo.
A source claims that Izzo was struck in the leg but already has gone through surgery and is reportedly stable.
Gibbs spoke to media outside the club after the shooting.
“They tried to kill Tupac. They tried to kill me, I’m still alive,” Gibbs said.
RedEye reached out to Gibbs and his camp, but haven’t gotten a comment.
