Lincoln Park Zoo President Kevin Bell announced Thursday the new litters of dwarf mongooses were born earlier this month, and Mangalitsa piglets were born just this week.
The mongooses, according to a press release, are the second litter born at the zoo since the beginning of the year, bringing its baby population to 11. The species is common to eastern Africa, and it’s not uncommon to see the older siblings carry around the mouse-sized pups while on display at the zoo’s small mammal-reptile house.
Just days old, the four Hungary-native Mangalista piglets are currently nursing from their mother in the farm animal area. They will spend the winter growing curly hair which is common for the species, according to the zoo.
