The Blackhawks will take three goalies on their trip against the Senators on Thursday and the Maple Leafs on Saturday.
Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said the team will decide later on Thursday’s starter.
Since Corey Crawford became sidelined with an upper body injury, Antti Raanta and Scott Darling have split time in net for the Blackhawks.
Raanta won his first contest of the season, shutting out the Flyers 4-0 last Tuesday but then lost two straight games (3-2 to the Predators and 3-2 Blues).
Raanta went 13-5-4 with a 2.71 goals-against average in his first season last year backing up Crawford.
Darling, a Lemont native, won his first-career NHL start, a 2-1 win at the United Center against the Senators on Sunday. He lost his following start against the Ducks 1-0 on Tuesday. Both goals allowed by Darling were short-handed.
“He’s out there playing hard every day,” Quenneville said of Raanta. “He wants the net. He wants an opportunity. I don’t know if it’s a controversy. I would say it’s an opportunity right now internally where the situation has played out the way it has.”
Injuries:
Forward Marian Hossa got a day off on Wednesday. … Forward Daniel Carcillo (right knee) is still expected to sit out for about a month.
