Chicago Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson swept a pair of postseason team awards announced Monday.

Johnson, who started all but one regular-season game, was named Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year in votes cast by local media members.

The top defensive player award is his second straight. In 2014 Johnson, now in his fifth season, made 96 saves with a 1.48 goals-against average and recorded six shutouts.

Forward Quincy Amarikwa was named the Fire’s Golden Boot winner for his team-leading eight goals.

Also Monday, Major League Soccer announced Los Angeles-based Chivas USA will cease operations immediately, with a new club scheduled to begin play in 2017. A new Los Angeles team owner is set to be announced Thursday.

The league also announced a realignment starting with the 2015 season. New clubs in Orlando and New York City will join the Fire in the Eastern Conference while Sporting Kansas City and Houston move to the West.

The changes create two 10-team conference. Teams will continue to play 34 regular season games.
