The “good majority” of McDonald’s U.S. restaurants will carry the McRib sandwich this year, rather than the whole chain, just as the cult favorite has been sold since 2012, a spokeswoman confirmed on Friday.

Fans of the McRib were commenting on Twitter and elsewhere in recent days after hearing that the limited-time offer sandwich wouldn’t be sold at all 14,000 or so McDonald’s U.S. restaurants.

But the truth is, the sandwich hasn’t been sold at every McDonald’s nationally since 2011, a spokeswoman confirmed on Friday.

McDonald’s leaves it up to local market operators to decide whether to sell the sandwich, which is quite popular in some parts of the country, just not everywhere.

The McRib will be in “a good majority” of the U.S. restaurants, spokeswoman Lisa McComb said.

McDonald’s upcoming rollout of the McRib – no date announced but it is “coming soon” – comes after Wendy’s introduced three pulled pork items to its national menu in late September. Wendy’s pulled pork sandwich, cheeseburger and cheese fries are only expected to stay on the menu until mid-November.

McDonald’s said that once the McRib is in restaurants, it will be available “while supplies last.”
