The first single from the Foo Fighters’ new album “Sonic Highways” is here and boy, is it angry! “Something From Nothing” is a distinct song, if only because it was recorded here in Chicago with producer Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio studio in Avondale. The track’s creation is documented in the first episode of the accompaning HBO series, which shares its name with the album. (I reviewed the episode here.) More Top Picks Best Japanese Peelers
The song sounds like vintage Foos, filled with stadium-sized guitar whaling and Dave Grohl’s patented growl echoing through the entire track. Sonic Highways arrives officially on November 10th and was recorded at various studios around the country (a process which is documented in the HBO series). In case you hadn’t heard yet, the band will end their week-long residency on “The Late Show with David Letterman” Thursday night before heading to host a viewing party of the HBO show and play a sold-out show Friday night at the Cubby Bear in Wrigleyville.
