A woman was killed after being struck by a Metra Rock Island District train Wednesday evening in Tinley Park, officials said.
The pedestrian was hit somewhere north of 183rd Street about 5 p.m., west of the Tinley Park station on the Rock Island line, said Meg Reile, a spokeswoman for Metra.
Rock Island trains began moving again after Train No. 409 which was scheduled to arrive in Joliet at 5:24pm was stopped near Hickory Creek due to the incident. Trains began running again at shortly after 6 p.m. after the passengers were able to get on another train, Reile said.
Rock Island trains stood at stations while the incident was cleared, Reile said.
The woman was identified Thursday as Veronica Reidy, 51, of the 26300 block of Windfield in Monee, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
