Homewood Suites by Hilton recently added the first New York City property to its portfolio of more than 350 all-suite extended-stay hotels. Conveniently located three blocks from Times Square, Madison Square Garden and Penn Station, the new 22-story, 293-suite Homewood Suites New York/Midtown Manhattan was built on the site of a former parking lot in the Garment District.
Each contemporary guest room has separate living and sleeping areas as well as kitchenettes with microwaves, two-burner electric stoves, dishwashers and full-size refrigerators — all luxuries if you’re accustomed to typical Manhattan rooms. The high-ceilinged suites are 25 percent larger than the average hotel room in the city. The property also has a workout room, 24-hour convenience shop, free grocery shopping service, and outdoor relaxation areas on the patio and rooftop.
The Homewood Suites brand is known for value-added amenities, which include complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi; daily hot breakfasts; and dinner buffets (with free wine and beer) Mondays through Thursdays, served in a homelike dining area off the lobby.
Over the last two decades, extended-stay properties have been one of the fastest-growing segments of the hotel industry nationwide, attracting more than $1 billion in investments in 2012 alone, according to industry publication Hotel News Now. These apartment-like properties appeal especially to families traveling with small children and people working away from home for long periods.
AKA has already opened upscale extended-stay properties in four Manhattan neighborhoods and will open another next summer. New York is also seeing the rapid growth of extended-stay properties in the outer boroughs, including Home2 Suites by Hilton and Residence Inn.
The Homewood Suites is at 312 W. 37th St. Weekend rates start in the low $200s. 212-244-0644, homewoodsuitesmanhattan.com
