Police announced Tuesday morning that no charges will be filed in the alleged sexual assault of a female student at Dominican University in River Forest over the weekend.
After conducting numerous interviews of witnesses, the victim and a person of interest, a representative of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Felony Review Unit determined that no criminal charges will be filed in connection with the incident, which allegedly took place in a dorm room early Saturday morning, according to River Forest Deputy Chief of Police James O’Shea.
O’Shea said he did not have any additional information as far as why the office chose not to pursue charges.
A 22-year-old Chicagoan who turned himself in was released without charge, O’Shea said.
The 22-year-old is banned from campus “pending the outcome of our own internal investigation,” a school spokeswoman said.

Police believe the alleged assault stemmed from a party in another dorm room involving underage drinking, O’Shea said, adding that the person of interest is not currently enrolled at the school.
O’Shea declined to comment on whether the victim had any previous contact with the individual.
“Dominican University takes the issue of sexual assault and its compliance with Title IX very seriously,” school spokeswoman Jessica Mackinnon said in a statement Tuesday. “We want to emphasize that the university is conducting its own private, confidential investigation of this matter and is providing support to the complainant and the wider Dominican community.”
