Charles Tillmanis out for the season with a torn triceps injury, but the Chicago Bears veteran cornerback is fully engaged and energized after watching the team’s 27-13 victory over the Falcons last Sunday in Atlanta.

Tillman, who has been replaced by rookie Kyle Fuller, is impressed with the first-round draft pick.

“I really think he’s an up-and-coming rising star,” Tillman said Monday night during his fifth annual fundraiser at the Montgomery Club in Chicago. “And so far he has been consistent. One of the things I try to do when I play…or when I was playing…was (to) just be consistent. And so far Kyle has been consistent. That’s all you can ask from a player.”

Injuries to the entire Bears starting linebacking corps entering the Falcons game left many fans wary of the Bears’ chances to pull out a victory.

Darryl Sharpton, Khaseem Greene and Christian Jones stepped in and played better than the incumbents had in previous weeks.

“I was nervous, I can’t even lie to you, like a lot of fans,” said Tillman, who credited defensive linemen Lamarr Houston, Jared Allen, Willie Young, Ego Ferguson and Stephen Paea for “creating havoc up front.”

The Bears improved to 3-3 with the victory and host the Dolphins Sunday.

“Hopefully we can keep that rolling,” Tillman said.

Tillman said he was scheduled to have the cast on his right arm removed Tuesday.
