Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Collector-O-Rama, the sale organized by Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art, will offer a diverse array of artwork and collectibles. About 20 collector-vendors will be thinning out and selling their accumulation of works by self-taught artists, as well as an assortment of funky objects and vintage items they’ve amassed.

Event organizer Heather Holbus, Intuit’s assistant director of operations and promotions, said some collectors will be selling highly prized works by the late self-taught Chicago artists William Dawson, who carved elongated wooden figures, and Wesley Willis, who used pen and markers to create Chicago street scenes on poster board.

Visitors can also expect to find purses crafted of metal tabs from soda cans, and vintage objects such as wooden advertising signs and game boards.

There will be free workshops too, where participants make brooches out of beer-can tabs and wallets from duct tape.

Holbus said she bought a cast-iron squirrel nutcracker for $5 at last year’s sale. She also became so infatuated with sought-after paint-by-numbers paintings that she started to collect them.

Holbus’ advice: “If you love it, you should buy it.”

Even if it means making room in the house for a whole new collection.
