It’s Week 6 for the Bears, and Devin Hester is back! On the other end of the field, that is. As the Bears prepare to face the Falcons, much has been made of Hester’s comments that he wasn’t happy at the end of his time in Chicago. In fact, it seems he was ready to run to whatever team would scoop him up.
So for this week’s Bears Brain Teaser, let’s focus on Hester going the distance. If Hester were to run from Soldier Field to the Georgia Dome via Interstate 65 South (according to Mapquest, rounding to nearest hundred), how many times over would he have to run the distance of all his returns for touchdowns? Round to the nearest whole number.
Answer: 727 times.
How we got there: Hester’s returns for touchdowns, including the Super Bowl, cover 1,695 yards, or 5,085 feet. According to Mapquest and rounding to the nearest hundred, the Georgia Dome is 700 miles (3,696,000 feet) from Soldier Field via I-65 South. Divide 3,696,000 by 5,085 and you get 727 times (rounded up from 726.8).
Thanks to all who entered, and look for the next challenge Friday!
