At 5:25 a.m., the second total lunar eclipse of 2014 should be visible under mostly clear Chicago skies. This is the second in a series of four total lunar eclipses — separated by six-month intervals — called a tetrad.

With high pressure passing over our area Wednesday, mostly sunny skies will prevail. The approach of a cold front from the west will bring increasing cloudiness overnight. The front will pass through our area Thursday in the early afternoon, with cloudiness and a chance of showers in mainly southern portions.

From Friday through Sunday, we will rest on the southern edge of high pressure centered over the northern Great Lakes. Low pressure will pass to our south, bringing extensive cloudiness and periods of substantial 2- to 4-inch rains to the southern and possibly central portions of Illinois and Indiana.
