Area park districts and other groups are offering a variety of Halloween activities in coming weeks.

Options for tots to teens and adults and even the family pooch include costume parties, pumpkin carving, scarecrow-building and coloring contests, a beer tasting and pet costume contest.

Frankfort

The Park District’s new event “Pirate & Pixie Party” for ages 3 to 8 will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Founders Community Center, 140 Oak St.

The cost is $7 per resident and $10 per non-resident.

Voting in a scarecrow-building contest will be Friday through Oct. 30.

Submissions are due Oct. 29 for the Halloween coloring contest.

“Halloween Haunting” from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 17 at Founders Community Center will have entertainment by Dave DiNaso’s Traveling World of Reptiles, Rainbow the Clown and DJ Don Gray.

A wristband costs $10 at the door, $9 for those in costume and includes unlimited access to the inflatables, fun fair games, haunted hay ride, story time, one craft, one small pumpkin from the patch (for the first 150 kids) and one face painting.

Dog-friendly competitions, a dog costume contest, boneyard hunt and trick-or-treating will be featured at “Howl-a-Woof” at 10 a.m. Oct. 18 at Bark Park at Commissioners Park, 80th and Laraway.

Admission is free. Rain date is Oct. 25.

Lemont

A costume parade will kick off the Halloween Hoedown from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 25 in the downtown area.

Parade lineup is at 12:30 p.m.

Mokena

Halloween Hallow is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 17, noon to 9 p.m. Oct. 18 and 1 to 6 p.m. Oct. 19 at Main Park, 10925 W. La Porte Road.

The 33rd annual event will have amusement rides, the Monster Market, hayrides, jack-o’-lantern and pumpkin weigh-in contests, musical entertainment, pony and horse rides and contests for costumes, scream queen and mummy wrap.

Admission is $2, free for kids under 5. Different activities are included in admission each day. Parking is free.

Mokena also will have a Halloween House Decorating Contest

New Lenox

The Park District invites children ages 4 to 6 to wear costumes, play candy corn bingo and Monster Bozo Buckets and hear Halloween stories and music during “Monster Mash” from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Lions Community Center, 1 Manor Drive.

Tickets are $15 and include dinner and treats bags. Registration is required by Oct. 17.

Those 21 and older are invited to “Boos & Brews” from 5:30 to 11 p.m. Oct. 25 at Sanctuary Golf Course, 485 N. Marley Road. The inaugural event will include craft beer tastings, a costume contest, hayrides, games and a cash bar.

Palos Heights

Families are invited to a pumpkin-decorating party, “Boo-tiful Jack-o-lanterns,” from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Recreation Center, 6601 West 127th St.

Decorations will be supplied. The cost is $7 per resident and $10.50 per non-resident. The registration deadline is Monday.

Palos Hills

“Halloween Happenings: The Not-So-Scary Event for Kids” is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 18 at Pleasure Lake, 108th and Roberts Road.

There will be hayrides, a magic show, crafts, face painting, storytelling and more. Each child will receive a goody bag.

Tickets are $5 for kids ages 1 to 10 and free for adults. Tickets are available at the Community Center, 8455 W. 103rd St.

Palos Park

A Halloween party for ages 3 to 10 is scheduled from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Recreation Center, 8901 W. 123rd St.

Plainfield

Drop off a gently-used kids’ costume by Wednesday at the Recreation Administration Center and receive a numbered ticket for the costume swap from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 18 at Heritage Professional Center, 24023 W. Lockport St.

Ages 2 to 10 are invited to “Frankenstein’s Kiddie Carnival” with games (50-cent tickets), prizes and a costume contest from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 24 at Indian Trail Middle School 14723 S. Eastern Ave.

The seventh annual Halloween outdoor decorating contest will award prizes for family-friendly and scariest. A map of addresses will be posted by Oct. 27 at plainfieldparkdistrict.com. Judging will be Oct. 29.

Tinley Park

The Park District will offer “A Boo-tiful Time With Mom/Dad” at 11 a.m. Oct. 22 at the Recreation Center, 8125 171st St.

Designed for ages 2 and 3, the event will include crafts, games, treats and stories. The cost is $12 for residents and $16 for non-residents.

“A Hauntingly Good Time” on Oct. 22 at the Recreation Center will include games, crafts and treats. The program will be held from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. for ages 3 to 5 and from 5:45 to 7 p.m. for ages 6 to 10.

The cost is $14 per resident and $19 per non-resident.

“Pumpkin Creations” for ages 5 to 12 will be held from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Recreation Center.

The cost, including pumpkins and materials, is $15 per resident and $20 per non-resident. Attendees are asked to bring their own carving knives.

The film “Psycho” will be screened at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Performing Arts Center.
