The bubble burst Friday for a man charged with stealing more than 50 bottles of champagne and liquor from a Near North Side nightclub.
Roosevelt Allen, 44, was charged with two counts of felony burglary after prosecutors say he stole champagne and liquor valued at over $25,000 from MercerOneThirteen, a club located at 113 W. Hubbard Street.
In two separate incidents Allen stole about 50 bottles of champagne and liquor valued at over $25,000, according to the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.
In the first incident prosecutors said Allen took 49 bottles of champagne valued at $20,000 from the club. The club’s bottle service menu offers bottles of champagne that range in price from $175 to $1,575, according to the club’s website.
Prosecutors did not identify which brands of champagne Allen allegedly stole.
Prosecutors also said Allen returned to the venue on a separate occasion and took $5,600 of liquor from the club’s basement.
Chicago Police Officers identified Allen from video footage taken during both instances.
Allen, of the 2600 block of South California Avenue, was ordered held in lieu of $90,000 bail.
