The summer street fair season has pretty much come to a close, but fanciers of handcrafted goods can still get their shopping fix at the Handmade Market. The indoor artisanal sale kicks off Saturday and will continue on the second Saturday of each month through April.

The market takes place at The Empty Bottle music venue, which has hosted the event since 2005. More than 30 vendors display and sell a wide variety of wares. Emphasizing products that are unique, sustainable and affordable, the market puts established and up-and-coming Chicago designers directly in front of customers.

“It’s really about creating community,” says Handmade Market owner and organizer Heather Flett. “It’s relaxed, easy and comfortable. It’s about creating a space where you can bring together artists and crafters and people who value local artistry.”

Shoppers will find an eclectic mix of items, including jewelry, handbags, hats, clothes, home decor, dolls and paper crafts. Among the offerings are truffles from Confections Else, hand-dyed silk scarves from Argaman & Defiance and hand-spun wool knitwear from Videnovich Farms.

Although the venue is designed for those 21 and older, the market is family friendly, and anyone under 21 is allowed to enter if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The club will sell alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages for those who want to sip while they shop. Food is available next door at the Bite Cafe.

Noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 11, The Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave. Admission free. Street parking. Details, handmadechicago.com.
