With its 65-game conference winning streak on the line, playing another unbeaten team didn’t phase Maine South.

The Hawks scored on five of their first seven possessions in the first half on the way to a 42–7 victory at Glenbrook South on Friday night in the Central Suburban South opener for both schools.

“We definitely know the history and really appreciate the guys who came before us and gave us a nice streak, but we have to approach it like any other game,” Maine South quarterback Brian Collis said.

It took No. 7 Maine South (5-0, 1-0) 1 minute, 42 seconds to reach the end zone when Justin Fahey scored on a 32-yard run.

Collis was on the money all night, hitting his receivers with ease en route to a 321-yard passing performance with one touchdown. Collis connected with eight receivers, with Jonathan Arenas hauling in two passes for 96 yards, and George Sargeant catching six for 72 yards.

“The receivers did a great job getting open and they were the guys making the catches,” Collis said. “It’s great to have that amount of guys as weapons, and we’re going to use them.”

Collis finished 20-for-23 for 321 yards and a touchdown, including 17-for-19 for 298 yards in the first half. His 22-yard touchdown pass to Vinny Labus gave the Hawks a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Collis’ 57-yard pass to Arenas set up a 7-yard sprint by Fahey with 53 seconds to play in the opening quarter for a 21-0 lead.

On the Hawks’ first possession of the second half, Fahey scored his third touchdown on a 9-yard run for a 42-0 lead.

Glenbrook South (4-1, 0-1) had just four first downs in the first half compared to the Hawks’ 13. Maine South outgained the Titans 399-119 in the opening two quarters.
