Keith Sbiral, assistant village manager for Brookfield, will become the suburb’s new village manager, trustees decided Monday.

Sbiral, 39, has served as assistant manager for the last nine years and will assume his new role on Oct. 6. The board of trustees voted unanimously to approve Sbiral’s contract. He will succeed Riccardo Ginex, who announced his resignation as village manager on Aug. 25. Ginex is leaving the village for the same job in Oak Brook.

“Keith has been an integral part of virtually every project, every initiative, every new policy that has come forth over the last nine years,” said Village President Kit Ketchmark, describing him as “the go-to guy” on many village projects. “We’re excited about him helping us to continue on.”

Ketchmark said that when Ginex announced he was resigning, the board ultimately decided to forgo a search after agreeing that Sbiral was the man for the job.

Over the last nine years, Sbiral said he has been primarily responsible for the building and planning department, as well as economic development and finance. He has a master’s degree in urban regional planning from the University of Iowa.

He came to Brookfield after serving as the planning department director in Downers Grove for a few years.

“I really feel like this is home. This is a great village,” Sbiral said. “I’m incredibly excited to take the helm here in Brookfield.”

He added that he was looking forward to continuing work to boost commercial development in town, noting that the village’s adoption of two Tax Increment Financing districts in 2008 and 2010 has already produced some successes.

“We’re really right on the cusp of having some great things happen,” he said, citing recent agreements with Sherwin Williams Paint Store and the upcoming opening of an Advanced Auto Parts in town.

Sbiral will start the job with an annual base salary of $136,000.
