A longtime Plainfield police dog died of natural causes last week.

K9 Aron completed his last shift Sunday with Officer Brian Wagner, his handler and partner, according to Sgt. Mike Fisher.

K9 Aron became ill during the shift and subsequently died of natural causes, Fisher said.

Wagner began K9 school in 2006 at the Landheim Law Enforcement Center in Indiana, where he was first paired with K9 Aron, according to Fisher.

“After completing their training, they returned to Plainfield and began an illustrious career together,” Fisher said in a statement. “During their career, Officer Wagner and K9 Aron quickly developed a bond known only to a select few in the law enforcement community. K9 Aron will be greatly missed and our condolences extend to Officer Wagner and his family during this difficult time.”

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Plainfield Fire Protection District headquarters, 23748 W. 135th St.
