Antique and craft vendors and artists will set up shop on the sidewalks for the Lemont Street Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, along the 300 block of Lemont Street.
The seventh annual event to benefit the Lemont Area Historical Society and Museum also will have antique appraisals, family photos in Granny’s Attic, a bake sale, music and museum tours. Admission is free.
“It’s an old-fashioned street fair, a nice relaxing afternoon,” said Sue Roy, who chairs the event and serves as president of the historical society. “There are activities for kids, a clown with balloon animals and face painting, homemade sloppy Joes and hot dogs and entertainment.”
In addition to a dozen or so vendors, residents along Lemont and Cass streets will have front-yard sales.
Visitors are invited to bring their own antiques for appraisals from 1 to 3 p.m.
Longtime Lemont resident Abe Ordman will talk about early days of retailing at 1:30 p.m.
Puckerville Farms of Lemont will have pumpkins and fall décor for sale.
The Holy Cross/Immaculate Heart of Mary Marimba Ensemble, featuring students from Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood, will perform from noon to 1 p.m. Before and after, a deejay will entertain and hold an oldies trivia contest with prizes in the afternoon.
Visitors also are welcome to take tours of the museum at 306 Lemont St.
“The reason we do the street fair is we want people to know the resources we have,” Roy said. “We have a great museum and library. The church is available for weddings, baptisms and funerals.”
Located in the Old Stone Church, a national landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Lemont Area Historical Society and Museum features historical artifacts from Lemont and the surrounding area and a temporary exhibit on John F. Kennedy.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays to Fridays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays. Its Harry J. Swanson Memorial Library, with genealogical materials, maps and more, is open by appointment only on Wednesdays. Admission is $2, $1 for children ages 12 and up.
