An East Moline man has been charged with promoting prostitution after authorities say he rented a room at a Schiller Park motel where he was arranging for clients to have sex with a prostitute.
Jermaine Jackson, 29, was arrested outside a Motel 6 at 9408 W. Lawrence Ave. on Sept. 11 as part of an undercover operation, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. The office was responding to a Backpage.com advertisement, officials said.
Assistant State’s Attorney Tom Hyland said that when officers were detaining a female who had been in the motel room, Jackson appeared and began taking pictures of them. Hyland said the officers asked for his identification, which he handed over.
The officers then gained information that Jackson had rented the hotel room for the purpose of promoting prostitution, according to court documents.
Jackson was gaining money from the prostitution allegedly being conducted in the room, officials said.
Jackson told officers that the woman was his girlfriend, Hyland said.
Jackson was charged Saturday with promoting prostitution, a felony. His bail was set at $250,000 on Sunday.
He is due back in court in Maybrook on Tuesday, according to court documents.
