Gov. Pat Quinn has granted 38 clemency petitions, his office announced late Friday afternoon.
The clemencies, 15 of which involved cases in Cook County, were among 124 petitions acted on by the governor. The office inherited more than 2,500 cases built up during former Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s tenure.

Quinn’s office said the governor has acted in 3,047 clemency petitions since taking office. He’s granted 1,113 petitions and denied 1,934 petitions.
Each person granted clemency has undergone a criminal background check, Quinn’s office said.
Petitioners can now ask a court to expunge their convictions.
