John Goodman

is in talks to star in the Paramount Insurge and

Bad Robot

thriller “

Valencia

.”

Dan Trachtenberg will direct, with J.J. Abrams producing for Bad Robot. Paramount had no comment.

The majority of the movie takes place in an underground cellar, home to a teenage girl and a caretaker. The girl wakes up in the cellar after a car accident, at which point her eerie companion tells her a nuclear attack has devastated society. Goodman will play the caretaker.

Dan Casey wrote the most recent version of the script. Josh Campbell and Matthew Stuecken penned the original draft.

Like all Insurge projects, the film will be budgeted at at about $5 million to meet the company’s mandate of producing small-budget, high-concept pics.

Goodman has strong ties with the studio as of late: He voiced one of the Transformers in “Transformers: Age of Extinction” and can be seen next in Paramount’s “The Gambler.” He is repped by Gersh.
