Donald Sterling

has agreed to allow his estranged wife, Shelly, to negotiate terms for a forced sale of the

Los Angeles Clippers

.

Since Donald Sterling was given a

lifetime ban by the NBA

on April 29, Shelly and her lawyers have purportedly been negotiating with the

NBA

for a swift and amicable sale of the embattled team.

The NBA filed charges to terminate Sterling’s ownership of the Clippers this week, according to

ESPN

. He had until next Thursday to respond to the league. A hearing had been set for June 3, after which the board of governors would’ve convened for a vote on whether to oust Sterling.

Sterling’s lawyers had previously said that he intended to

fight the ban and the NBA’s $2.5 million fine

. Sources now indicate to ESPN that the disgraced owner has changed his position and will allow Shelly to deal with the NBA to facilitate the sale. The NBA will reportedly only accept the agreement between the Sterlings provided the team is sold in its entirety, although Shelly has previously expressed her desire to maintain her 50 percent stake in the Clippers.

TMZ first reported the agreement between Sterling and his wife.
