In a pre-Cannes move, FilmNation Entertainment has acquired international sales rights for captivity drama “Room,” starring Brie Larson, with production set to start in the fall.
Lenny Abrahamson is directing the adaptation of Emma Donoghue’s novel, which was a finalist for the Man Booker and Orange prizes and has sold more than two million copies worldwide.
FilmNation will launch foreign sales at Cannes. UTA Independent Film Group will be handling the North American rights, and is putting together the financing alongside Element Pictures.
Larson (“Short Term 12,” “The Spectacular Now”) will star as a woman kidnapped as a teenager who has been held captive for years in a 10-by-10 shed where she lives with her five-year-old son.

Ed Guiney will produce and Andrew Lowe will executive produce for Irish production company Element Pictures. Tessa Ross, Sue Bruce Smith and Rose Garnett will executive produce for Film4 who are developing the film with the Irish Film Board.
