Lake Zurich’s Old Rand Road railroad crossing will be shut down from May 5 to 9 for track repairs, officials announced recently.
The crossing, near the Casper True Value Hardware and Lake Zurich Lumber, will be shut down to vehicular and pedestrian traffic while Canadian National Railway replaces rails and stabilizes the track, according to Lake Zurich Management Analyst Kyle Kordell.
Kordell said in an email that the track sustained substantial abuse over the harsh winter.
Canadian National is paying for the work, Kordell said in the email, though officials weren’t sure of the cost.
The detour route will be Main Street and Route 22, according to an announcement from the village. The end result will be a smoother crossing into Lake Zurich’s downtown, the release stated.
