As Chinese global investment shifts toward innovation-intensive sectors, the states landing high-tech deals with the greatest total value have been New York, California and Michigan, according to a report to be released Tuesday morning.

While Illinois attracted the fifth greatest number of such deals between 2000 and 2013, it ranked only ninth in the value of those high-tech transactions, according to research firm Rhodium Group, which did the study in collaboration with the non-profit Asia Society. The study focused on deals in 15 tech-related industries.
