has adopted a cleaner website design that has a “center-aligned” look, designed to emphasize user-created playlists — and, of course, boost the time people spend on the site.
The redesign to YouTube’s web pages is supposed to make them feel “similar to the mobile apps you’re spending almost half your YouTube time with,” YouTube web developer Yining Zhao said in a
announcing the change.
The redesign also lets users flip between what’s recommended and popular in the “What to Watch” section, and access the latest from subscribed channels — with both options now front and center. A new guide icon to the right of the YouTube logo (which appears at the top left-hand side of the page) provides access to playlists, subscriptions and other features.
In addition, YouTube has enhanced playlist features: The guide now provides access to all of the playlists users have created, as well as playlists from other channels they have liked.
